Katrina finally seems to be getting away from Salman's shadow.

The year 2007 was indeed special for Katrina as she is the only actress to achieve four back-to-back successes in the year in Namastey London, Apne, Partner and Welcome.

Today she has become the highest paid item girl in the industry paid a whopping 1.5 crore to shimmy in Shree Ashtavinayak’s next film Blue.

The film stars Sanjay Dutt, Akshay Kumar and Lara Dutta in lead roles.

We hear, when the production house asked her to do an item number, Kaif initially refused, as she doesn’t want the label of an item girl.

But when the makers agreed to pay her a 1.5 crore fee and offered a few more scenes, the actress accepted.

However, Balaji people were not that lucky. When they approached Katrina to do an item number for their next, C Company, the actress flatly turned it down. Money, of course, was the bone of contention. Balaji was not willing to shell out that kind of money.

But being an item with a fat pay cheque is not what she all wants, she wants to share space with someone like Hrithik.

“I don’t know if I would get an opportunity to work with him so early in my career, but he is one actor I would love to work with, no questions asked," she tells.

"The way he put his heart and soul into the character of Akbar left me speechless. I'm looking forward to working with Hrithik sometime soon.”

Of course, she is also in for an image makeover, so it is bye bye girl next doot and hello sexy siren phase for Katrina.

But this change is not just confined to her professional life. She is also delibrately distancing herself from Salman.

So when someone from media asked her Salman Khan and his ongoing flings with Brazilian supermodel Bruna Abdalah and Mahek Chahal Kat just pounced on the poor guy saying," You know, you guys need to learn that when someone is standing before you, you have to treat that person with respect."

"It's a ridiculous question, ridiculous. You guys need to learn to draw the line," she added before walking away in a huff.

katrina Kaif

Race, one of the hottest films this season, is around three weeks away from its release. Still, it’s producers TIPS and composer Pritam are leaving no stones unturned to ensure that the film not just stays in news but also take one of the biggest ever openings at the Box Office.

To keep the film hot in circulation and add on to the immense hype that this action/thriller has been generating, the makers have decided to add on a new song in Race. The song is special since it features Saif Ali Khan and now hot-n-happening Katrina Kaif who was the only leading lady to have enjoyed a cent percent record last year (Namastey London, Apne, Partner and Welcome). Moreover, the title of the song is nothing less than inviting as it reads - ‘Sexy Lady’.

As per the film’s producer Ramesh Taurani (of TIPS), the song was added as it was found to be a good replacement for ‘Mujhpe To Jaado’ which was yet to be shot. “We are thrilled with the great response to the title song ‘Race Sanson Ki’, ‘Pehli Nazar Mein’ and ‘Zara Zara Touch Me’. We wanted to keep the momentum going. When Pritam made us hear the tune of ‘Sexy Lady’, we knew that this was the song for the film,” confirms Ramesh Taurani.

Adds Pritam, “‘Mujhpe To Jadoo’ was anyways waiting to be picturized. Since Abbas-Mustan also felt that ‘Sexy Lady’ could be a good replacement, everyone was in consensus with the decision.

Katrina Kaif is being paid Rs 1.5 crore for an item number

Katrina Kaif Katrina Kaif is being paid a whooping Rs 1.5 crore for an item number in Shree Ashtavinayak’s next film Blue.

The film stars Sanjay Dutt, Akshay Kumar and Lara Dutta in lead roles.

A Mumbai tabloid this morning quoted an industry source, “Katrina Kaif has become a sort of a lucky mascot, after all her films have done well. The actress is now getting any price she is demanding. Shree Ashtavinayak’s Blue has a 100-crore budget. When the production house asked her to do an item number, Kat initially refused, as she doesn’t want the label of an item girl. But when the makers agreed to pay her a 1.5 crore fee and offered a few more scenes, the actress accepted.”

The tabloid also quoted Katrina as confirming the development, “I am doing something very special in Blue. I wouldn’t call it an item number. I have given ten days for the film, May onwards. They require seven days for the song. The other bit will take three days.” The actress confirmed the price too. She told the paper, “The figure you’ve quoted is pretty accurate.”

Parag Desai, the media consultant for Shree Ashtavinayak told the paper, “We have indeed signed Katrina for Blue. We would not like to disclose the figures involved. Also, she has a proper role in the film.”

Katrina Kaif going places in RACE movie

Katrina Kaif is sure going through a creamier phase of her life. With 4 hits last year (Namstey London, Apne, Partner and Welcome), the journey continues for the lady. She has been signing some really big and lucrative deals. Her two hot and sexy numbers ‘Touch Me‘ and ‘Sexy Lady‘ in Abbas Mustan’s film ‘Race‘ has already caught the attention of public and are topping the music charts.

To add on to everything, Katrina’s Rs 6 cr deal with Studio 18 has generated interest amongst other A-list production houses who want to get this happening gal to their credit.

Katrina Kaif and Kareena Kapoor raking in the moolah in Bollywood

Katrina Kaif And KareenaKatrina Kaif and Kareena Kapoor are raking in the moolah in Bollywood these days. Till last year it was all about multiple film deals being offered to leading male actors but now these two ladies are walking away with big deals themselves.

Katrina Kaif is increasingly turning out to be the most bankable actress in Bollywood and it is no wonder then that she was snapped up by Studio 18 for a two film deal for six crores.

Says Katrina, “Yes, its true that I have signed up with Studio 18 for two films, but am not in the position to reveal details, as I have signed a confidentiality contract with Studio 18. Besides there is a comfort level associating with them since I have worked with them in Namaste London, Welcome and Singh Is King. And both the script as well as the directors are simply brilliant.” And recent news suggests that on the heels of this contract, Kaif has also inked a deal with Reliance Entertainment for 6 crores as well.

Similarly, with just one blockbuster last year, Kareena Kapoor is back on top. Not only is she charging close to 3.5 crores per film thereby making her the highest paid actress, the Kapoor beauty has also signed a multiple film deal with Ashtavinayak soon after the success of Jab We Met became apparent. However now it seems that the actress is being approached by various production houses and therefore is even trying to re-negotiate her current contract with them.

Is Salman Khan marrying Katrina Kaif this year?

That's the strong buzz doing the rounds in B-town lately!

Apparently before the year ends, Sallu miyan will get married to his sweetheart Katrina Kaif.

Finally, he has complied to the pleas and demands and made an earnest promise to his family - especially his mother Salma and dad Salim - that he is willing to sacrifice his bachelorhood at the alter, this year.

Salman's parents had made a final peremptory plea to the actor saying they want to see him happily married with kids. And Salman accepted without much fuss!

Marriage and Salman have always seemed poles apart.

One of his friends said, "He promised his parents that he will marry this year. Hope he doesn't change his mind. Knowing him, anything is possible!"

Even if it is a good news for his well-wishers, it certainly isn't going to go down well with his female admirers. And why not?

With one of the good-looking bachelors in Bollywood giving up his bachelorhood, it's certainly going to be a disappointment for the girls ;o)

Stay tuned in!

Katrina Kaif on her Bollywood career, Salman Khan and future projects

In a candid chat with Times Of India, Katrina Kaif talks about her Bollywood career, Salman Khan and future projects:

You ended 2007 on a high note with big hits this year.
Oh, yes, I had Namaste London, Apne, Partner. And all the films did well. It's been an extremely fulfilling year professionally for me. My career is moving towards the right direction. I have taken the leap in the right direction and hopefully next year will be even better. But trust me my best is yet to come.

What was your first impression when you worked with Salman Khan for the first time?
When I did my first film with Salman, it was like "Oh my god!" I'm going to do a film with Salman Khan. I had virtually butterflies in my stomach.

And what about your personal front? Your love life?
(Raising her eyebrow) Come on, don't start it all over again. I'm not answering this.

But you are known as Salman Khan's girlfriend?
Oh really? That's weird, no one has ever told me that.

Okay, got the message loud and clear. How has your family reacted to your new-found stardom in Bollywood?
My family is a little disconnected with the film industry. They have no proper knowledge about Bollywood. Whatever little they know about Bollywood is through me. But I'm glad that I have been able to give them financial security. It gives me immense pleasure to see my family financially secure because of me. It's a different high and satisfaction. I can't even explain it in words.

You started off with movies like Boom and now you have films with big stars like Salman, Akshay and Saif. How does it feel?
It's a wonderful feeling. Everyone wants to be on the top, but hailing from a non-filmi background the success is sweeter. I just wanted to prove it to myself.

Were you upset when critics called you just another pretty young thing who can't act?
It was harsh. They should have understood where I came from. I had no formal training and I was very raw when I came in. I'm learning and improving with each day and I still have miles to go.

You seem to become an expert in comedies these days?
You are right. Actually, I did quite a lot this year and also learnt a lot. Comedy is difficult, but once you get a grasp of it, you have a blast.

Welcome is also a comedy...
I would call it a commercial entertainer. It's not mindless and slapstick comedy, it's witty. What makes it special is the unusual cast. Feroz Khan, Anil Kapoor, Nana Patekar and Akshay Kumar coming together. That makes it irreplaceable and special. I had a blast shooting with them. Nana is great, so is Anil and Feroz Khan saab is coming back after a long time and all the combination makes it so interesting.

And your chemistry with Akshay Kumar?
I think we look good on screen. I love working with Akshay. He is a non-judgmental kind of a person. You don't feel shy while working with him. He makes me very comfortable.

Katrina Kaif: Salman did not slap me!

Katrina Kaif has rubbished a Mumbai tabloid report that Salman Khan slapped her in public. A hapless Katrina also voiced her anguish at the baseless allegation.

"I don't know from where they got this information, but it's completely untrue. It's just rubbish and someone's figment of imagination. Why will Salman slap me? I'm just sick and tried by this entire baseless allegation. Earlier, I used to ignore it, but this time it has really gone bit too far," an aggravated Katrina told the press.

According to the tabloid story Salman Khan slapped girlfriend Katrina Kaif in front of several onlookers at Bandstand Barrista, a coffee shop in Bandra, late Thursday afternoon January 31.

Interestingly, a competing Mumbai tabloid reported this morning that Saif Ali Khan had married Kareena Kapoor in a low key ceremony Wednesday, February 6. That story too was trashed by Saif in an interview with CNN-IBN.

One day, two sensational stories in two competing Mumbai tabloids. Are the Mumbai tabloids going too far?

Katrina at Music launch of RACE

5 February 2008 (Sawf News) - Race stars, Katrina Kaif, Saif Ali Khan, Akshaye Khanna and Sameera Reddy attended the music launch of their new film on the set of Amul Voice of India Chhote Ustaad, Filmcity, Monday noon February 4.

Katrina disappointed us in a floor length black mesh dress with lined body and sheer full sleeves.

But for the fact that the empire waist had a silver shining band with blue and parrot green striped bodice and the scoop neckline was revealing, we would have labeled the dress as a sack.

Katrina was accompanied by her younger sister, Isabelle.

Sameera Reddy looked lovely in a short body hugging sweetheart neckline black polka dot satin dress. She wore large silver hoops and she looked graceful with her long hair left open.

Saif, attired stylishly in a grey suit, black shirt and his trademark handkerchief in the coat pocket, arrived an hour ahead of others and stayed busy with his PDA, talking and texting all the while.

Wearing aviator glasses all through, he came across as anxious, agitated and rushed. His mind definitely seemed somewhere else. Sadly, once again he had no smiles to flash for the press.

Akshaye was his charming self, composed and well turned out in a dark blue suit, white shirt, a blue silk tie and aviator glasses.

We didn't see Bipasha Basu and Anil Kapoor at the event, who also feature in the film.

TIPS Films' thriller Race, directed by Abbas Mustan, is the story of two brothers competing against each other. It stars Saif Ali Khan, Akshaye Khanna, Katrina Kaif, Sameera Reddy, Bipasha Basu and Anil Kapoor.

Race music is given by Pritam who was present at the music launch. Atif Aslam has given three songs to the film with one being sung by Taz (Stereo Nation).

A stuntman from Australia who specializes in car chase and swivel was hired for the filming. The wardrobe for all the stars was designed by Anaita Shroff Adajania.

Hello
Special appearance

the long legged lass Katrina Kaif.

If there was one actress who drummed her presence on the big screen in 2007, it was the long legged lass Katrina Kaif.

Businessofcinema.com last interviewed Katrina on the eve of Namastey London’s release. Just two films old then, she added three more films to her filmography namely Apne, Partner and Welcome within the next 10 months. What’s more, all these were box office successes, which gave her career a major fillip.

She admits her career path has changed radically with different flavoured films in her kitty. Moreover, the industry’s outlook towards her has also changed from being considered as a pretty face to evolving into an actor. That can be affirmed by the fact that she has recently bagged a three film deal with Studio18.

Amidst her rising career graph, her work philosophy remains to do one good film at a time rather than sign a bulk deal for loads of moolah and no good movies to do.

Businessofcinema.com bridges the months gone by since her first big hit Namastey London and takes a peep into her future as she gets candid in an exclusive interview after a small yet successful inning.

Excerpts:

During the release of Namastey London, you hoped for the film to be a turning point in your career. In retrospect, how do you feel?
I think Namastey London was a very important turning point at that stage in my career. It did a huge amount for me. But I don’t think it is going to be the only turning point of my career. I hope to have many more turning points with bigger and better films and achievements.

Katrina running ahead of competitors

Katrina running ahead of competitors

Katrina Kaif has geared up for her forthcoming flick, Race in which she co-stars with Saif Ali Khan, Bipasha Basu and Akshay Khanna. It’s her first attempt at an action flick. If you have checked out the trailers then you must have noticed her doing some amazing stunts and simultaneously she is looking very stylish.

Katrina has also signed an 8 crore deal with Studio 18 where she would be working with directors she’s comfortable with and also will get to play roles that she always wanted to do.

With Yashraj Films already in her pocket and Subhash Ghai’s Yuvraaj with boyfriend Salman Khan, Katrina’s surely ahead of all her female competitors in the business.

Katrina Kaif charms corporate marketing honchos

Katrina Kaif in a still from Race.

19 February 2008 (Sawf News) - Katrina Kaif's dream run at the box office in 2007 has made her a sought after actor and brand ambassador. Having clinched a six crore two film deal with Studio 18 earlier this month the star has now bagged a deal with the Godrej group to endorse its Godrej Renew hair color product.

The deal with Studio 18 has already made Katrina, a relative lightweight till the beginning of 2007, one of the highest paid Bollywood actresses.

With the Godrej deal Katrina, already a familiar and endearing face on the small screen, is all set to join the ranks of actresses like Aishwarya Rai and Preity Zinta who dominate TV ads.

As far as films go, the 23-year-old daughter of a Kashmiri father and a British mother looks poised for another success with Abbas-Mustan directed Race due to be released March 21.

The film tells the story of two brothers, Ranvir Singh (Saif Ali Khan) and Rajeev Singh (Akshaye Khanna), who compete against each other living life on the edge. Katrina plays, Sofia, the beautiful secretary of Ranvir who is in love with him, though he loves glamorous model Sonia (Bipasha Basu).

Katrina Kaif, who stands out in the promos and stills for the film, features in a song sequence with Saif, choreographed by Bosco-Caesar, wearing a dress that arguably no other actress in Bollywood could have carried off.

"The song demanded the kind of outfit we chose. I found this dress designed by Jenny Packham in Dubai who is a big name there and retails in many hi-fashion stores there. It's a flowy, layered blue dress," Katrina says.
